My goal as a Lactation Consultant is to focus on providing holistic, evidence based breastfeeding support and care from preconception to weaning for women and their families in Northeast Louisiana. I want to not only help mothers breastfeed their children, the but to elevate the wellness of the community as a whole. Mission

I believe that mothers in Northeast Louisiana deserve to have their breastfeeding goals met through professional assistance from Milk & Honey. I know that God gives each of us special gifts and He has given me a passion for helping new mothers. Becoming a new mother can be challenging and my goal is to help make this time a joyful one. No matter if you breastfeed 1 time or for over 1 year - I am proud of you! I firmly believe that if we build up the women in our community and give them the breastfeeding support they deserve, that our entire region will reap the benefits!

Meet Nancy

Nancy Brown Milk & Honey Lactation Consultant.jpeg

Hey there! My name is Nancy Brown. I’ve been a Registered Nurse (RN) since 2008 and an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) since 2016. Prior to finding my passion helping mothers, I spent many years in the Adult ICU and Emergency Room setting.

After having my first child, I realized just how hard breastfeeding could be! I felt overwhelmed by the things I found online, and didn't know where to turn for advice and expertise. I knew then and there that I wanted to help mothers in my community breastfeed. I saw how stressful it could be, and I knew I had to do something to help! I immediately shifted gears and became an IBCLC!

Becoming a new mother comes with a lot of changes. I love helping women become mothers - for the first time or for the 10th time. I truly love my job and all the mothers and babies I work with!

Not only do I help with feeding, but I function as an emotional support for a new family. These times may be difficult and having someone on your side to guide you can be invaluable. I screen for Postpartum depression at all consultations and refer appropriately.

North Louisiana Breastfeeding Coalition Nancy Brown Milk & Honey

I have served as the President for the North Louisiana Breastfeeding Coalition (NLBC) and have previously served as a board member of the Louisiana Breastfeeding Coalition (LBC). LBC works on state and local levels to address the many factors that influence a family’s ability to start and continue breastfeeding. We hope to create a culture in which breastfeeding is the norm for all babies in Louisiana.

Chrysalis Orofacial Nancy Brown Milk & Honey

I am a TOTs Trained Professional through Chrysalis Orofacial. This training has broadened my knowledge of tongue ties, lip ties and buccal ties greatly. There are many ways a tethered oral tissue (TOT) is displayed by a baby. Knowing how to evaluate for one is incredibly helpful and allows me to refer to other members of your health care team.

I am an active member of the United States Lactation Consultant Association as well. USLCA is a national leader in advancing the lactation profession. They are advocates for the value lactation care providers contribute to the family healthcare team and in other community health settings. A trusted source of continuing education and professional development, USLCA and its members strive to improve the health and well-being of children and families through breastfeeding.
